Distress paint and metal

Hi everyone, hope your weekend is going well. I tried out the new Ranger Distress Paint today for the first time and of course I'll be needing more colours :D! I've used the paint on metal which worked very well and the way it marbles when you wet it gives really beautiful effects and mixing of the colours.

I took some photographs as I was going along working with the metal and paint which are below although some were taken during the day and some at night but it shows what I did at least.

I used Mowed Lawn, Mustard Seed, Picked Raspberry, Barn Door and Salty Ocean Distress Paints over some metal that I attached to card for the pieces that fitted onto my chunky wood ATC and for the flowers which were cut using the Sizzix Tim Holtz Tattered Florals die I embossed before painting with Tim Holtz Texture Fades embossing folders Patchwork and Riveted Metal.

I rubbed back the paint to expose the metal with sandpaper and the embossing then shows up nicely. The edges of the flowers and the letters on the other side of the ATC were touched with black paint.

I used Ranger grungeboard letters for my word and gave them two coats of paint so that I could rub back to a second colour. On top I added a Tim Holtz ideology clock key and some metal covered die cut letters using Tim Holtz's german scrap technique. The letters were cut using the Sizzix TH Market Place die. To finish off I added pearl pen pearls in silver to give the impression of more rivets.

I'm entering my chunky ATC into the challenge at Simon Says Stamp and Show which this week is 'metal-ology'. Tim Holtz is having a month long challenge on his blog which started yesterday to make something using the Tattered Florals die so I'm entering into that too.

Enjoy your evening :-)

Reading this post it finally occured to me why these new paints would be useful to me. (I was probably going to get them anyway, based on reviews by other users.) Me and alcohol inks don't get along and if I'm not careful I can suffer unpleasant side effects. These paints would be a great alternative I could happily live with while enjoying their different qualities. Love the colourful foil flower.

I am not sure what this is but I don't dare unlock it -- the colors are gorgeous. To show you how smart I am -- what does ATC mean? I am going to have to really study this - no matter what it is - it is beautiful! Are your flowers made of metal too or card stock. Yes it looks like your flowers are cut from metal but where do you get such metal? Back to Simon Says Stamp for me. Really a neat keepsake - as long as you don't unlock the box!!!!
