The Craft Barn - Painted Flavoured Oil Bottles Class

Hi everyone, I hope you've had a good weekend. I'm sharing the oil bottles that we'll be hand painting tomorrow at The Craft Barn, I like it when ŵe make something that's useful as well as decorative.

All the painting is done using DecoArts range of frosted enamel paints. The chilli's and garlic bulbs are hand painted with these same paints with a bit of black permanent pen to help with definition.

The tags are cut from hessian sheet and the paints work very well over that even with the open weave.

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow as its been a while and seeing all the variations that I know there'll be.

Back soon,

Chris

Craft Barn Mixing Media Project

Hi everyone, I hope you've had a good weekend. I was able to get out and about for a while to take in some gorgeous autumn colour at a local national trust garden, I've posted a photo further down that was almost unbelievably red....people were queuing up to photo it or be photographed with it.

We're transforming a little wooden box at next Monday's Mixing Media class at the Craft Barn with the aide of Kim Dellow's gorgeous stamps for Paperartsy, Paperartsy Fresco Finish paints and some tissue. I like all the possibilities of the stamps with lots of sweet images in both sets.

All the details are on the Craft Barn website.

Here's the tree photo I mentioned with it's fiery leaves.

The Craft Barn - Under the sea Mixed Media Frame

Hi everyone, I hope you've had a good weekend. It's mixing media club at the Craft Barn tomorrow and I've created an undersea themed mixed media frame as our project.

We'll be having lots of fun as always with different mediums, paints, beads, ribbons, die cuts and Tando chipboard pieces etc., to build up the textures and interest.

Everyone will have their own ideas of what they'd like to put in the aperture, it could be a photo, a print or a mirror.

The frame will also work as a seascape without the chipboard pieces and fish die cuts and I look forward to seeing how the lovely ladies who come along to mixing media club will make the project their own, it's the best part for me.

Enjoy your evening,

Chris X

The Craft Barn - Hot Melt Glue

Hi everyone, hope you had a good weekend. I've a project to share today which was featured on the Craft Barn blog on Saturday, so I'm a bit late in sharing the link unfortunately. It's been all about hot melt glue over last week on the blog and I've got a photo step by step there on how I created the dimensional centre of this PaperArtsy flower with glue. There are gorgeous projects from the DT as well.

Mixing Media Club at The Craft Barn

Hi everyone, I'm sharing my samples for the mixing media club at The Craft Barn tomorrow where we're going to be playing with PaperArtsy products, namely Rusting Powder and Emma Godfrey's Eclectica range stamps. There's acrylic paint and gold foiling in there too so it should be fun and I'm looking forward to meeting up with the lovely ladies who come along each month.

There are two 15cm canvases to be completed so it's going to be busy!

Hope you've had a,great weekend.

Craft Barn Mixing Media Club - Gelato's and May Craft Stamper Magazine

Hi everyone and Happy Easter. I don't have anything Easter related to show today but I do have photo's of some of the samples for my Craft Barn Mixing Media class for March which was held last Monday.

It was a Faber Castell Gelato (stick watercolour) play day and we had fun using them in lots of ways. Above is a little hanging that was simple to make using a Tim Holtz Sizzix Postage bigs die and card for the panel. Initially the gelato in contrasting colours are simply applied with fingers and baby wipes followed up with adding and subtracting through stencils. After that it's stamping with Kaisercraft stamps for the main images and texture stamping with black ink.

Applying gelato to the stamp direct, spritzing then stamping gives lovely effects depending on how much water is sprayed, Kaisercraft texture stamps work perfectly for this either solid or quite fine detailed, the results are always good and the ATC (artist trading card) above shows up the detail.

Heavily applying Gelato over stenciled texture paste is another good technique, here I've used purple with a bit of pink for variance in the colour. Metallic Gelato's are great for adding highlights over the texture and here I used a gold and silver direct from the stick. The colour was also applied over the dragonfly and sentiment, it's excellent for building up on die cut embellishments and also for colouring ribbon as shown here in the tag.
We also tried them in water to spray and with glazes and crackle medium, they're quite versatile.
I'm thrilled as always to have a couple of projects in the May issue of Craft Stamper magazine which is out on The 1st April and I've enjoyed some gorgeous articles from my team mates too.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Craft Barn Xmas Club makes

Hi everyone, hope you had a good weekend. I've realised that I have a few Craft Barn Christmas club projects that I haven't shared yet and this first set of makes involved making backgrounds with gelato sticks, gold leaf and stencils and then creating flip-it cards, gift boxes and rosettes.

I used Woodware Stamps stamping with gold ink and also with sticky glue to add mega gold flake and I also used the flake through the Tim Holtz harlequin diamond stencil.

For the boxes I used a Sizzix matchbox die to make the box from plain gelato coloured card and then uses the stencilled pieces for decorative bands.

Gelato's are great with stencils, you can push the colour through them or colour the card and then take colour out through the stencil or do a mixture.

The Rosettes are made from coloured printer paper and I added a gem Brad coloured with alcohol ink to hold the pieces together.

Craft Barn Christmas Club

Hi everyone, hope you've had a nice Sunday. I'm sharing a sneak peek of my Craft Barn Christmas Club project for tomorrow. This is the last of the Christmas club classes for the year and we're re finishing up with some git bags, tags and a die cut 3D album flip card.

Using some gorgeous Woodware stamps, Brilliance, Versamagic and distress inks I've created the stamped background on the die cut card pieces cut from white card before building up the card itself. Adding a sentiment strip and die cut poinsettia flower, swirls and snowflakes finished it off.

We won't be continuing the Christmas club in 2016, we're looking to change it probably to a mixed media style club which will be fun.

Craft Barn Christmas Club

Hi everyone, hope you've had a good weekend. I'm sharing a project for The Craft Barn Christmas Club tomorrow which is inspired by some lovely rolled paper creations I saw on Pinterest.

Quite often I've seen this style created using patterned rolled scrapbooking papers but I decided to go opposite to the usual style and have a mainly white tree and colourful background so I used plain printer paper.

I've added a bit of stamping on the tree and dimension using glue gun dots and punched stars.

My background has stencilling with texture paste, stamping and texturing with black ink and paints, DecoArt acrylic paints and treasure gold gilding wax.

I've added some sparkle with stardust sticklers and given the tree some dimension with a wash of acrylic paints blended out.

I'm looking forward to seeing how the lovely ladies that join me once a month interpret the project, they always give it their own twist which I love.

Woodware and Brusho at the Craft Barn

Hi everyone, I'm sharing some cards that were made recently for a Craft Barn class and were part of the class when we also made the canvas that I blogged here using Brusho paints. For the cards we made background papers using the Brusho paints and then stamped with some gorgeous Woodware stamps and coloured them with alcohol markers.

I added lots of sparkle to all the cards with stardust glitter glue and snow with a white gel pen.

The Reindeer card was done slightly differently, this time I used the Brusho papers to paper piece Rudolf except for his antlers which are coloured with silver pencil.

The colours may not be quite as vibrant as they are in person as I took the pictures at the shop having forgotten take them at the time. Saturday was my last class at the bricks and mortar Craft Barn shop which closed on Sunday but happily they are continuing online and with classes in an alternative venue with a pop up shop starting in the new year.

Brusho Fun - Craft Barn

Hi everyone, it's been a while, hope you're all well. I wanted to share a project that I made for the 'All things Christmas' club at the Craft Barn last week. Not a Christmas project but I create items that can be given as gifts as well. The lovely ladies that come along are great fans of Brusho paints just as I am and all their canvases were a delight to see when they were finished.

I used a canvas but worked on the back so that I had a recess to play with. The staples and folded over canvas corners were hidden with grunge paste and then painted over with PaperArtsy Snowflake white paint. The Brusho paints were then sprinkled over and spritzed with water to activate them. I wanted to keep some white areas showing so I didn't completely cover with the Brusho's. I used a combination of Alizirin Crimson, Leaf Green, Lemon Yellow and a tiny hint of Turquoise paints.

In the recess I've worked on some Stampbord one inch tiles with Alizirin Crimson, Lemon Yellow, and a touch of Orange Brusho's spritzed for a lovely autumnal watercolour effect. I stamped the tiles with a lovely Woodware nine leaf print stamp and then arranged the tiles into the canvas using gel medium to stck them down.

Later I scratched into the tiles with a scratching tool for some highlights but didn't photo that part unfortunately, I may update the post later.

I've added my project to the Simon Monday Challenge blog where they have a theme of ombré.

Back soon.

Mixed media frame - Craft Barn class

Hi everyone, hope you've had a lovely weekend.
I'm sharing some photos of my recent Mixed Media frame class at the Craft Barn. We had a great day and as always it was a pleasure to see each interpretation of the project.
There's lots of layering and texturing techniques in the project.
Gorgeous metallic colour from Viva Maya Gold paints.

And an easy distressed finish with DecoArt Media cream.

All of this is on a large Tando multi-part frame which is perfect for displaying photographs or further mixed media in the aperture.

The class is running again in mid October with a few places left to be filled.

Mixed Media Canvas

Hi everyone, I wanted to share a mixed media canvas today that I've made for a class at The Craft Barn coming up in May and all the classes for May should be up on the website in the next day or two.

I had fun in a bit of a Finnabair style but with a lot of colour, die cut flowers, chipboard pieces, buttons and pearls etc., with products from the gorgeous DecoArt Media Line of pastes, paints and antiquing creams together with highlighting wax and gilding flake.

I had a limited palette of three colours of the media acrylics and enjoyed the results of the colours mixing together.

I'm back later in the week with my make for the next Paperbabe challenge.

Enjoy your day.
